Ezio Auditore da Firenze has long been the poster boy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, so it’s not a total surprise that he’s returning for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe game.
Assassin’s Creed fans are currently counting down the days until Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the first franchise remake that will likely be followed by many more.
Don’t worry though, Ubisoft still plans on propelling the series forward with new additions to the timeline, with the next being Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Hexe three years ago with a brief teaser. No official news on the game has been shared since.
However several reports have been floating around online with insiders claiming to know more than Ubisoft has been willing to share.

New reports have doubled down on previous claims, painting a clearer picture of what Assassin’s Creed Hexe is going to be about, what kind of gameplay we can expect, and what we should know about its cast.
According to these reports, shared by RinoTheBouncer on X, the game’s protagonist will be called Anika and she’ll be a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio’s sister.
The game will be set in Wurzburg, Germany, and the game’s map will be mostly made up of woodland, which honestly sounds like a great playground for an assassin.
Anika will apparently learn the ways of the assassin through Ezio, who’ll star in the story as a sort of mentor figure for her. Anika will develop her own unique style though using alchemy to inflict various effects on her enemies.
The student-mentor premise isn’t exactly new but if Anika is part of the Auditore family, Ubisoft would obviously be missing a trick by not having Ezio show up.
However, that does leave us with one big question. How many times does Ezio need to return?
Yes he’s the poster boy of the franchise but surely bringing him back in the fold over and over again makes each appearance less impactful than the last.
Also since Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is getting a remake, you just know the first three Assassin’s Creed games will be next, so we’ll be seeing a lot more of Ezio as the years go on.
Return of the world’s greatest assassin aside, Assassin’s Creed Hexe does sound pretty good. The witchcraft/alchemy mechanics sound fun and feel like a natural progression from the myths and monsters we’ve seen in the last few games.
The only downside is it’s still claimed Hexe will be yet another RPG-style Assassin’s Creed game.
Obviously take all of the above with a pinch of salt as Ubisoft is yet to confirm or deny any of it, nor has the company shared any release date plans plus we know that the game has changed directors several times which is never a good sign.
That said, Summer Game Fest and Gamescom are right around the corner so perhaps we’ll hear more about it then.
