Unfortunately, Disney has become quite accustomed to pushback against some of the scenes in its films in recent years.

Just a few months ago, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was banned in Saudi Arabia for its inclusion of a queer character. Before that, Eternals was banned for its depiction of a same-sex couple whilst West Side Story recieved the same treatment for its inclusion of a transgender character. Lightyear is the next film to join that list.

Unsure of what Lightyear is all about? Take a look at the stunning trailer below.

According to Reuters, Pixar’s Lightyear has been banned in 14 countries for the inclusion of a scene depicting a same-sex kiss. The scene centres around a female space ranger, who is a friend of Buzz, and her wife. A montage recounts key moments across the duo’s relationship, including the aforementioned kiss.

So far, it’s understood that the film has been banned in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and Lebanon as a result of this scene. Producer Galyn Susman also revealed that China had asked for cuts to be made to the film, but Disney have denied this request, leading to speculation that China will also ban the film soon too.

Susman explained, “We're not going to cut out anything, especially something as important as the loving and inspirational relationship that shows Buzz what he's missing by the choices that he's making, so that's not getting cut.”

Buzz Lightyear is brought to life by Chris Evans who also had strong thoughts on the sour situation. He declared, “It's great that we are a part of something that's making steps forward in the social inclusion capacity, but it's frustrating that there are still places that aren't where they should be.” Lightyear is officially out today in its full glory.
