Pedro Pascal revealed that he was "dead asleep" during the scene where Oberyn Martell gets killed, because it was so relaxing.

Pedro Pascal is a lovely guy and a very talented actor, but if there’s one thing that many of his characters have in common (other than being cool, stoic dads), it’s that lots of them tend to meet very tragic on-screen fates.

There are few deaths more brutal than that of Oberyn Martell, Pascal’s character in Game of Thrones. Even when you know what's coming, the scene is pretty hard to watch, but as GGRecon reports, in his appearance on First We Feast’s latest episode of Hot Ones, the actor revealed that filming the scene was actually incredibly relaxing, and he was fast asleep during it.

Right now, everyone is talking about Pascal’s portrayal of Joel in The Last of Us - take a look at the teaser for the season one finale below.

“I got my head crushed in. It was the best part of the day,” he said. “It was so hot when we were shooting that scene. [Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is] over me and he puts his thumbs into my eyes, and they've got tubing through his body into his forearms to his thumbs just like pumping this cool blood. And [he was] so gentle. The gentlest guy ever. I felt no pressure at all, and he was so hyper-aware of it. I couldn't even feel his weight on me as he basically straddled me.

“There were all of these fleshy bits that they were kind of placing all over my face, and pumping blood so that it would pool and spread through the amphitheatre for […] that shot of the two of us from above. And I was dead asleep.

“It was so hot and this stuff was so cooling to the touch, and you had to be really, really still. And that was the most relaxing [thing]. [...] I went into the deepest sleep I've been in,” he continued. “I realise now that because I'm not a very good sleeper I need to be laid out with pieces of flesh, gelatinous, cool-to-the-touch face meat and pooling blood and maybe I'll finally get a good f***ing night's sleep.”

I don’t know about you, but it makes me feel a bit better about the fact that Oberyn died if it meant that Pascal got a nice nap out of it. Going forward, can we please let him have a few more roles where he actually survives, though?
