The long-awaited Payday sequel, Payday 3, may have just had its release date leaked, and it’s pointing to September this year.

Following an initial reveal trailer last month, fans have been patiently waiting for more information on the latest instalment in the series, which hasn’t had a new entry since the hugely popular Payday 2 in 2013. All we know so far is that it’ll be dropping sometime this year, with new information suggesting it’ll launch in September.

Data miner Aggiornamenti Lumia recently shared a tweet claiming that the release date for Payday 3 is the 21st of September 2023, though this is unconfirmed. In fact, many are speculating it’ll drop three days earlier on the 18th of September, following some unconfirmed preorder listings.

Payday developer Starbreeze Entertainment hasn’t provided any information to confirm or deny the speculation at the time of writing.

It’s more than likely we’ll be receiving more information during the upcoming Summer Games Fest, especially if the title is dropping later this year. It’d only make sense for the official release date, as well as a first look at new gameplay, to be revealed during the opening show or sometime after.

The Payday games are cooperative shooters, where the player teams up with friends or AI to execute a series of heists. Featuring several playable characters, as well as an expansive selection of weapons, gadgets and perks, robbers need to plan accordingly, as well as adapt when everything goes wrong.

The new title aims to bring the series back to its roots, once again taking place in the sprawling city of New York, full of cash and treasures waiting to be plundered. It’ll also mark the return of the original masked criminals from Payday: The Heist, composed of Chains, Hoxton, Wolf and of course, Dallas.

Payday 3 will be released sometime later this year, and will be available on PC via Steam, as well as console platforms.
