The Tomb Raider series is truly a historic franchise and the adventures of Lara Croft have been winning the hearts of fans since its inception in 1996.

However, it’s probably fair to say that the series hasn't quite matched the heights of its golden 90s era. Though to be fair, while I do understand the complaints of a somewhat winey Lara Croft since the 2013 reboot, it’s still a series that I cannot get enough of - and if you too are a fan, then you’ll be pleased to know that more Tomb Raider is on the way.

Check out the Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer below.

Back in April 2022, current series developer Crystal Dynamics announced that it is working on a new Tomb Raider game and that it will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, a shift away from its previous Foundation engine.

At this time, we do not know what story this new Tomb Raider will tell, but a previous rumour claimed that it may be another remake of the 1996 original. If true, this would be the OG’s second remake following 2007’s quite fantastic Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Furthermore, in August 2022, quite conflicting rumours claimed that the upcoming game would be somewhat of a departure for the series.

Thankfully, all the previous rumours may soon be put to bed as it seems that an announcement could be made in the coming days. An update on the official Tomb Raider website has encouraged fans to sign up for ‘breaking news’.

“Are you ready to become a Tomb Raider?” asked the website. “Sign-up to be the first to hear breaking news regarding the Tomb Raider franchise — including rewards, exclusives, merch, releases, and more!”

We don’t know for sure when or if an announcement will be made in the coming days, but with Gamescom happening this week, now could be as good a time as any. We’ll be having our fingers crossed.
