New Assassin's Creed Multiplayer Game Leaks - Even The Devs Call It a 'Turd'

This doesn't exactly bode well

It’s been quite a number of years since Ubisoft formally announced Project Invictus, a multiplayer entry in the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise.

To this day, very little is known about the title other than it’s being worked on by several For Honor veterans and will unite characters from across Assassin’s Creed’s rich history.

That’s not a lot considering Invictus first came to light over three years ago.

Given the major restructuring that recently took place at Ubisoft, which included job losses as well as several game cancellations and delays, it’s hard to even argue that Invictus might arrive in time for Ubisoft’s 40th anniversary this year.

That’s especially so now that it’s come to light that apparently even the developers working on the title reportedly hate it.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t expect anything revolutionary from a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed on a visual basis.

I expected it would look much like a regular Assassin’s Creed entry, albeit with altered structuring and, obviously, more players.

That’s especially the case if Project Invictus has former For Honor devs working on it, another game with quite a realistic art style.

It seems though that Ubisoft has gone rogue with this one, developing something more akin to Fortnite or Fall Guys. Oh.

This is according to Twitter/X leaker j0nathan who claimed “the devs hate the game”.

“I introduced it to you a little while ago,” he said. “Invictus will be a sort of Fall Guys version of Assassin's Creed, a somewhat ‘funny’ game with Fortnite-style graphics featuring a series of challenges that lead to the fabled Top 1.”

“I told you the concept was dead on arrival and that the game would probably flop. Well, I've got someone from the development team who reached out to me to say that even they don't believe in it at all and that they're all disgusted to be working on this turd,” he added.

Oof. That is not a good sign.

According to j0nathan, one developer reportedly told him, "I don't know a single colleague who likes Invictus. Only the managers will probably keep smiling and singing the praises of this project.”

They went on, “It's awful: ridiculous animations, hideous and cartoonish characters (their faces are just as awful), idiotic sound and visual effects, combat arenas… the concept is just plain dismaying.

“I wonder who this game is even for and why it was made. Maybe it's only meant for kids… six-year-olds? I have no idea. If that's the case, I pity the parents of those kids who are going to be hounded for money to fuel a fresh wave of microtransactions."

What Does This Mean For Players?

A Fall Guys or Fortnite-esque art style and structuring certainly could prove to be unpopular with the Assassin’s Creed audience, especially if you throw in microtransactions too. To me, it sounds like players looking forward to Project Invictus are in for something more like Sonic Rumble, and I certainly didn’t have that on my bingo card.

It goes without saying that I have to urge you to take all of this with a hefty pinch of salt as all leaks must be considered to be untrue until official confirmation lands.

In the meantime though, this isn’t exactly painting a promising picture for Project Invictus. Could we be looking at Ubisoft’s next flop, or its next cancellation?
