Minecraft huge free update turns the game into a survival horror

Minecraft is scary again

Minecraft has been given an exciting new update that adds a creepy twist to its open-world exploration.

I’ve got to be honest, I haven’t properly played Minecraft in years so with the amount of updates that have been added since, I feel like playing it now but be like that stock image of the old lady using the computer.

You best believe I’ll be getting a ticket the Minecraft Movie though, to see all of its weird and wacky wonderfulness.

Nevertheless, I do want to revisit it one day, and the latest update certainly got my attention when it was first teased by the developers.

The latest update adds a new biome to explore called The Pale Garden, which is basically a forest that looks decayed and dying making Minecraft feel like survival horror game akin to the opening to Silent Hill 2 (2024).

While players explore this new biome, you might hear the occasional cracking sound behind you, explained by a new mob called The Creaking.

They’re stick-men that pretty much act like the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, in the sense they can only move when unobserved.

They’re harmless when you’re looking at them and when it’s just one by itself, it poses a minimal threat to the player, but if a few attack you at once, it can quickly become a terrifying fight for survival.

You can’t even kill them like normal enemies, instead you need to find their heart nearby to destroy them, adding an extra step to tackle this spooky new enemy.

Minecraft has dabbled in spooks and scares before, like Endermen being creepy Slenderman-like enemies and, of course, there’s the Warden who was added in a recent update as well.

This new update though seemingly pushes the horror to new heights, and it’ll be interesting to see what else gets added as the game continues to evolve.
