Without a doubt, Minecraft is one of the biggest video game properties of all time and is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

When Minecraft made its debut in 2011 for PC and mobile devices, I think it's fair to say that few could have predicted how popular it has become today, perhaps even its creators, Mojang Studios.

Check out the Minecraft Movie trailer below!

It seems that Minecraft can do no wrong, especially when it comes to spin-off titles such as Minecraft Legends as well as the endless merch that fans will seemingly consume forever. What’s more, even the nightmare-fueled Minecraft Movie will probably break box office records when it launches in cinemas next year.

Minecraft Movie aside, there’s still plenty of love to go around for its video game counterpart with Majong Studios announcing that it’s set to receive some free downloads for fans to enjoy.

Announced on Minecraft.net, not only will the PlayStation 5 finally receive a native version of the game, but “multiple free game drops” are promised throughout 2024. “We know that you want new Minecraft content more often, which is why we’re changing our feature development rhythm,” reads a blog post.

“Instead of providing one free update during the summer, as we’ve done in the past, we’ll now be releasing a number of free game drops throughout the year. These game drops will vary in size and will bring you features to explore more frequently.”

The blog post continues: “Sharp-eyed players will have spotted our first trial of these drops all the way back in December 2023, when we made visual changes to bats and turned decorated pots into functional storage containers. Next came Armored Paws – which included armadillos, wolf variations, and wolf armour – and released in April 2024.”

Minecraft is available now on just about every platform imaginable.
