As one of those people who has played Minecraft without ever really getting into it too much, it's difficult for me to get my head around just how unendingly popular it is to so many people.

It's already the bestselling game of all time, and players still login by the millions every day to work on their creations or further multiplayer projects. So much so that we've now had everything from a full and detailed recreation of the entirety of Tolkien's Middle-earth to a working PC made using redstone (the game's pseudo-circuitry).

A big part of the continued appeal is the regular updates put out by Mojang, which add new blocks and ways to play for players, unlocking previously impossible creations.

The next one of those is Mounts of Mayhem which, as the name may suggest, adds a bunch of cool, new rideable mobs to Minecraft, as well as a new weapon type, and we finally have a release date, that may well be a lot sooner than you think.

The Mounts of Mayhem update is set to fully launch on both the Bedrock and Java versions of the game on 9 December, via a blog post on the official website for the game.

In sharing the news, the developer said the following, "Mounts of Mayhem is launching on December 9, 2025! The arena is ready, the contenders are locked , and the date of the clash is set. I’ve been appointed as the official ringside commentator for today – and I’m going to take my job very seriously. So let’s get a closer look at our challengers!"

The challengers they are referring to are two new mobs, the Camel Husk and Zombified Nautilus. Both can be tamed and ridden by the player, though be warned you'll have to do some fighting first.

The Nautilus is ridden by one zombie enemy, and the camel is ridden by two, all of whom are wielding the game's devastating new weapon type, the spear. Also added in this update, the spear has a bunch of unique attack styles and uses that should make it stand out against the game's other weapons.

Both of those animals come in non-zombified forms as well, with the camel serving as the tallest mob in the entire game. The update is available for free, so all you have to do is sit tight and wait for release day.
