New Pokémon Game is Minecraft, and That Isn't a Bad Thing

Pokémon Pokopia has been the center of attention over the past few months as players attempt to figure out what the strange new addition to the franchise is aiming to achieve. New leaks shared on social media indicate that it might just be Minecraft, and fans aren’t mad.

The Pokémon Company has been doing a lot of experimenting in recent games, and not all of them have been successful. From the empty open world map of Scarlet & Violet to the tight and visually uninteresting mess that was Legends: Z-A, it hasn’t been clear exactly what audience The Pokémon Company was attempting to reach.

However, Pokopia may be the true trailblazer the franchise has been trying to create. In new image leaks of the upcoming “cozy” Pokémon game, players are getting a look at some of the building options, and they are very similar to the free building options in Minecraft.

New Leaked Images of Building Mechanics in Pokopia Inspire Hope

In a social media post shared by Pokémon content creator UniteVids, players can see a complex structure behind the main character. The post reads, “Looks like the constructions made with blocks can reach a considerable height (and the limit could be even higher)

While pre-made houses can have up to two floors, buildings made with blocks can have a lot more!”

This update is very exciting, as it indicates a decent level of freedom that hasn’t been available in any capacity in recent games. In fact, while Pokémon worlds have been getting bigger in each new game, the ability to interact with them beyond catching mass quantities of Pokémon has all but vanished.

These early images come alongside many others that have leaked from the demo that was playable during the 2026 Europe Internation Championships that took place earlier in February.

With the knowledge that Pokémon Pokopia is truly trying to push boundaries and offer more creative freedom, fans are more excited than ever to jump into this Animal Crossing/Minecraft hybrid and see what incredible structures they’ll have the chance to create with all the Pokémon in the game.
