The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fans can now dig into a brand new free adventure titled Beneath the Ice.

Skyrim has consistently proven itself to be the game that keeps on giving, as evidenced by the large number of mods and expansions that have come out in the years since release.

With the game celebrating its 15th anniversary later this year, now’s a great time to go back and check out all the new mods that have been released over the last few years.

In particular, there are a lot of mods which add brand new quests, NPCs, and items to the game to really build on the excellent foundation that Bethesda built back in 2011.

Beneath the Ice is one such mod, adding a brand new quest to the game and many new NPCs, dialogues, and items.

The mod takes inspiration from the Penumbra series of survival horror games from Frictional Games, the same developer behind Amnesia and Soma.

Beneath The Ice Should Provide Stealth-Oriented Gamers With A Big New Challenge

The official blurb on Beneath the Ice reads: “Darius Doyle, a famous explorer, adventurer and antiquarian has set his sights on his latest prize. This latest endeavour has taken him to the cold north of Skyrim. His expedition is guaranteed to yield something of exceptional value. Perhaps he could use a helping hand?”

It also sounds like the quest is also Dwemer-focused, the near-extinct race that is as close to Elder Scrolls' equivalent of Dwarves as you can get.

It’s recommended that players are between the levels of 15 and 30 to start this quest, making it a decent one for newer Skyrim players who have racked up a bit of playtime with their character, but haven’t reached a massively high level yet.

It’s also recommended to use stealth where you can, as not every fight will be in your favour, and you can’t win every encounter. Instead, you’ll need to use your wits against enemies to survive.

Altogether, the mod is a pretty brutal exercise in pain. It’s recommended that you save often, move quietly, and stay safe from enemy threats.

Beneath the Ice is created by Skyrim modder Hronoss, who has previously created mods like The Island at the Edge of Nirn, Shadowfang Keep, and Haunter of Skyggenborg.

You can download Beneath the Ice now for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition from Nexus Mods.
