Some of the younger readers out there may not know this, but there was a time when Rockstar Games actually released video games that didn't have GTA V in the title.
Ask anyone of a certain age and they'll recall a halcyon time during which Rockstar put out banger after banger. Bully! Manhunt! The Warriors! Midnight Club! Legendary games, all.
For those that don't remember, Midnight Club was a an arcade racer series not entirely unlike Need For Speed. Sadly, the last game in the series - Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition - released back in 2009. And given that Rockstar has really said anything about the franchise for the last decade or so, we'd imagine that it's well and truly dead.
To make matters worse, the games aren't exactly easy to come by and are completely unplayable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. You can, at least, play them on Xbox Series and Xbox One consoles via backwards compatibility, so there's that.

Fortunately, those of us who would love to see a brand-new Midnight Club entry have (sort of) had our prayers answered by the fabulous TeaserPlay, who put together a 'remake' of the original series using Unreal Engine 5 with the help of "high-end graphics features such as Lumen, Nanite, Screen Space Ray Tracing and Global Illumination Shader".
TeaserPlay writes: "We hope Rockstar will officially revive Midnight Club soon and we really hope that this video will be able to clear the level of expectations of the fans for Rockstar Games"
Of course anyone who's been following Rockstar for the last few years will know that it's currently laser-focused on delivering a little game called GTA 6. The good news is that recent reports suggest we'll be seeing the long-awaited sequel as early as next year, so that's something.
