The OG Metal Gear Solid is finally coming to modern consoles, says insider

It's rumoured that a remastered collection of the first three Metal Gear Solid games is in development for modern consoles.

Who’s excited for the PlayStation Showcase tonight? That’s a very silly question - we all have every reason to be.

Admittedly, Sony has remained tight-lipped on what games will actually be shown off - no specific titles have been officially confirmed to be included in the presentation. With that said, it seems that everyone is assuming that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay reveal is happening, and honestly? I’d be thrilled even if that was the only thing shown.

Take a look at the trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

But what else could potentially be shown off? According to a report from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, we’ll likely be seeing the reveal of a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3 - a game that’s been rumoured to be in development for some time now. However, that’s apparently not all that's in the pipeline for MGS fans - Corden also claims that the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy may also be coming to modern consoles in a new Classic Collection.

Allegedly, the three games in the so-called Classic Collection would be multi-platform, and remastered in glorious HD. If true, this is huge - Metal Gear Solid 1 hasn’t been playable on a console since the PS3 days, and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 have both been totally unavailable to buy on digital platforms since November 2021 due to expired “historical archive footage” licenses. Reportedly, however, the collection won’t be announced at the PlayStation Showcase, but it could potentially be shown next month.

Obviously, take all of this with a pinch of salt until it’s officially confirmed - it does seem a little strange that both remastered and totally remade versions of Metal Gear Solid 3 are allegedly in development at the same time. Who knows, perhaps by the time you read this article, some or all of these rumours might have already been made official?

The PlayStation Showcase will kick off tonight (24 May) at 9PM UK time on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels - don’t miss it.
