Since its inception on the NES in 1987, Konami’s Metal Gear franchise has been loved by millions, revolutionising tactical espionage and action gameplay, with a cinematic story presentation that has often been ahead of its time.

Arguably, the series shot to its highest of heights with the release of Metal Gear Solid for the original PlayStation in 1998. More recently, along with MGS2 and MGS3 (as well as other bonus features), it was re-released in 2023 as part of the Master Collection Vol.1.

Check out the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailer below!

Following the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1, fans of the Konami series have eagerly awaited the release of Vol.2 and with hints of its arrival, many will be hoping that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be part of that bundle of joy.

Other than being a fantastic game, the reason why many fans are hoping that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be included in Vol.2 of the collection is that this title originally released in 2008 has never been available on any other platform outside of the PlayStation 3.

In the immediate future, Konami is focused on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake and recently, I had the opportunity to chat with game producer Noriaki Okamura about remaking the all-time great. However, once the MGS3 remake is out the way, fans are wondering if a multi-platform Metal Gear Solid 4 could be next.

During an interview with IGN, Okamura was asked about the prospect of Metal Gear Solid 4 being included in the Master Collection Vol.2 and while he was very vague, he acknowledged that he is “aware” of its interest.

“Unfortunately, we can't really say too much at the moment with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot... you can probably connect the dots," he teased. “Right now, we still are internally concerned about what we should be doing for the future of the series. So sorry, we can't really reveal anything at the moment. But stay tuned.”

I think it’s pretty much a given that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be included in the Master Collection Vol.2 and it will be nice for this game to be finally free of its PS3 shackles.

As for the next game in the series, the aforementioned remake, Metal Gear Solid Solid Delta: Snake Eater does not have a release date at the time of writing, but it will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
