PS5 free offering is a gorgeous Stardew Valley rival you don't need PS Plus for

If you’re a fan of Stardew Valley, then Farming Camp most definitely needs to be on your radar.

The upcoming cozy adventure title from Innerfire Studios and publisher SOEDESCO is set to launch on September 24 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Having previously launched a successful demo on Steam, that same free offering has officially made its way over to PlayStation - and you don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to give it a go.

The pixel-art title sees you step into the shoes of Alessandra who has ventured off to Evertree Farming Camp in the hopes of being crowned the camp’s next best farmer.

“Farming Camp is a cozy, single-player farm management game that follows the journey of an ambitious teenager competing to become the best farmer in the camp,” begins the synopsis.

“Manage your farm alongside your companions, complete chores for points, and deal with the dynamics of a colourful cast in their teenage years.”

Players will actually take control of three farmers as Alessandra is joined by two other young hopefuls, so it’s up to you to assign chores between the various characters.

Those chores include watering crops, fixing up machinery, chopping wood, and more - and there’s plenty of time to chat and make friends too.

What sets Farming Camp apart from similar cozy titles is that almost all chores have their own minigame.

You may need to refuel machinery up to a certain line, for example, or chop wood within an indicated zone of success.

Other games include whacking pests back into the ground around your crops and cooking up delicious meals.

There are also camp classes to attend and main missions to take on, so you won’t feel completely untethered and left to your own devices in Farming Camp.

This is a single-player title at the present time.

Try six minigames for free and more in Farming Camp’s free demo

As mentioned, a free demo for Farming Camp previously landed on Steam where it's still available.

That demo, however, is now also available on PlayStation. Simply search Farming Camp on the PlayStation Store and hit download.

It’s a pretty generous demo, offering one in-game week of gameplay.

Within that time, you’ll get to sample six different minigames, meet 13 characters, and complete a variety of quests.

“The Farming Camp demo offers an early look at Alessandra’s life at camp. Explore the routine, meet your companions, and test your skills in a variety of farm activities,” devs note.

It’s off to a fairly decent start, with a player rating of 3.68 stars.

That being said, with that score Farming Camp isn’t going to contend for GOTY, but with 60% of players awarding a perfect score of five, there’s clearly something to like here amid the mixed consensus.

The demo has similarly made its way to Xbox and Nintendo Switch too.

Online playthroughs reveal that the demo could take you as long as 90 minutes to two hours to complete so if you’ve got a free evening coming up, perhaps this could fill it.
