Marvel might be recasting the role of Black Panther in the MCU following the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, but I reckon viewers will love the change.
Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020 following a battle with cancer and is mourned every day by Marvel fans.
Boseman brought King T’Challa, aka Black Panther, to the big-screen and did so brilliantly, with his last live-action appearance being Avengers: Endgame.
The MCU provided an in-universe explanation for why we won’t see T’Challa again, saying he succumbed to a mysterious illness which spurred on Shuri to become the new Black Panther.

That said the MCU isn’t just a universe anymore, it’s a full-on multiverse and viewers are expecting T’Challa to return as a variant some day soon, and we might have found out who’s putting on the mask next.

Rumours and speculation have pointed to Damson Idris as the next T’Challa, not replacing Shuri but fighting alongside her in whatever multiversal conflict is on the horizon. Damson Idris has even coyly responded to the rumours.
Adding some credibility to these rumours, Idris recently walked the red carpet at Vogue World: Hollywood. The actor walked alongside Angela Bassett who plays Queen Ramonda in the MCU.

Seeing the pair together has fans convinced that he’ll be joining the MCU soon, possibly during the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
It’d be a fine casting choice so hopefully this is Marvel Studios’ way of teasing what’s to come before an official reveal.
Casting Call
Avengers: Doomsday has already had its cast announced via the infamous “chair stream” but viewers believe there are a few more names yet to be announced.

Tom Holland for example wasn’t featured in the line-up despite Spider-Man: Brand New Day reportedly leading directly into the events of the next Avengers film, so for his name to be omitted is very curious.
Many are theorising that a second livestream will drop soon enough with a few more names for Avengers: Doomsday, or perhaps an entirely new line-up for Avengers: Secret Wars. My money would be on the former as announcing the cast for the following Avengers film would likely give too much of the plot away, or lead to theories about which characters will survive Doctor Doom’s debut.
Perhaps Damson Idris will be announced in a future livestream, but I’d imagine Marvel Studios is hiding a few cards up its sleeve to surprise audiences on the film’s cinema release.
