Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC Appears Online

Give me the DLC, or give me death.

The Marvel's Spider-Man games were really a lesson in meeting expectations, and Insomniac Games' efforts arguably resulted in the best video game versions of Spidey that we have ever seen (assuming your nostalgia for the PS2 games has subsided).

In my personal opinion, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was the absolute peak, with the unbelievable graphics only matched by the movement tech and fighting gameplay. The only thing that let it down was the lack of additional content we got after the game's initial release, and once you were done with the main game, there wasn't a whole lot to do apart from replay from the beginning.

That might not have been the case, though, if the developer's original plans had come to fruition. As first reported by ComicBook.com, there were plans for DLC that were clearly scrapped at some point, a fact that's very surprising considering just how well the game sold.

The information was sourced via datamining and leaks from anonymous individuals associated with the companies involved. Even more annoyingly, now that we're never going to get it, the DLC was set to continue some major narrative threads from the main game, as well as add entirely new ones to work through.

Though it doesn't say what exactly that refers to, many have speculated that we may have seen a conclusion to the Carnage storyline at some point, as well as possibly additional content related to the Spider-Verse crossover (whatever that might have looked like).

The major leak, discovered over on Reddit, sheds some light on what the initial load of DLC was going to look like and it's not what you might expect. First of all it would have revolved around Beetle, a villain who didn't feature in any form in the main game. What exactly that would entail is unclear, but we do know it would have been robot-themed, and Beetle may have been a rogue AI that threatens New York and the world more generally.

It had been clear for some time that Insomniac Games likely didn't get to fully see their vision through to the end, purely becuase the main game contains quite a few unresolved areas of story, from the very minor to the actually quite significant.

All of that is sadly now a pipe dream, so if you're looking to get your fix of new Spidey content, then you're going to have to wait for the third game, which is confirmed as being in the early stages of development.
