‘The Last of Us Part 1’ Isn’t A “Cash Grab”, Says Developer

Many have questioned the need for a remake of The Last of Us, but one developer is defending the project.

There’s lots going on in The Last of Us camp over at Naughty Dog. We know that a multiplayer title is in development and filming has now officially wrapped on HBO’s upcoming TV adaptation. The next project to be released though is the new-gen The Last of Us Part I.

This remake of the 2013 classic seems to elicit one of two responses. Fans are thrilled, and everyone else is questioning the point. Regardless of your thoughts, Part I is set to be released on 2 September and I personally cannot wait.

If you haven’t already, check out the trailer for The Last of Us Part I below to see the new-gen graphics for yourself.

It may feel like only a few years have passed since 2013, but The Last of Us was released almost a decade ago. Overall, the game still holds up today but you cannot deny that the gameplay and graphics are now increasingly viewed as dated. Therefore, a remake surely seems justifiable but some fans really aren’t convinced.

Developer Robert Morrison took to Twitter to respond to trolls who labelled the game a “cash grab”. Morrison wrote, “Actually it’s the most meticulously built and crafted project that I have ever seen or been a part of in my entire career. The highest level of care and attention to detail possible.”

What makes Morrison’s statement even more compelling is that the animator has worked on some great games including God of War and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The Last of Us Part I’s graphics have already won some fans over, although others remain dubious.

Regardless of your thoughts on The Last of Us Part II’s controversial narrative, it was undeniably a great success in terms of gameplay and environments, so we’re expecting big things for Part I.
