The Wizarding World has certainly lost some of its magic in recent years. The latest film instalment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, did not go down well with critics and the franchise has become plagued with behind the scenes controversy. JK Rowling and Ezra Miller have added to this, but it was Johnny Depp who was first ousted from the franchise following allegations of abuse made by former wife Amber Heard. It turns out though, Depp could be returning.

Following the allegations of abuse, Depp was asked by Warner Bros to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald which the actor agreed to, although I shouldn’t imagine it was really much of a choice. Mads Mikkelsen then replaced Depp in the role but according to Mikkelsen, Depp could step back into Grindelwald’s shoes.

Since the release of The Secrets of Dumbledore, Depp won his libel trial against Heard - yet he also lost a similar trial held here in the UK. Speaking to Deadline at the Sarajevo Film Festival, Mikkelsen spoke about Depp’s possible return given how “the course has changed.”
He said, “It was very intimidating [replacing Depp]. Obviously, well, now the course has changed—he won the suit, the court [case]—so let’s see if he comes back. He might. I’m a big fan of Johnny. I think he’s an amazing actor, I think he did a fantastic job. Having said that, I could not copy it. There was no way I could just copy it, because it’s so much him. It would be creative suicide. So, we had to come up with something else, something that was mine, and build a bridge between him and me.” This is certainly an idea that’ll split fans.
