The highly-anticipated HBO Harry Potter reboot is expected to begin filming this summer but with no official cast list, fans are starting to worry about which famous faces will be taking on the iconic roles.

Announced back in April 2023, HBO revealed that it had teamed up with Warner Bros. to bring a Harry Potter reboot to television for the first time.

Expected to span across multiple seasons and revisiting the story of the Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating news of its release.

However, despite us seemingly getting our first cast confirmation last week, it seems as though that may have been a mistake and we are actually back to square one when it comes to the show’s potential cast.

On 25 February, actor John Lithgow told ScreenRant that he had accepted the offer to play Dumbledore.

“Well, it came as a total surprise to me,” the actor revealed.

“I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it's going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I'm afraid. But I'm very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That's why it's been such a hard decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I've said yes.”

However, since then, HBO has come forward to reveal that the offer has not yet been finalised.

“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation,” the statement read.

“As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalise deals.”

This would make sense as previous reports from Variety had revealed that HBO was eyeing actor Mark Rylance for the role of the Hogwarts headmaster.

Although, once again, this has not been confirmed.

It seems as though casting for the Harry Potter reboot is still in the works and for now, we will just have to make do with rumours and accidental confirmations.
