John Carpenter Reveals He Hasn't Finished 'Red Dead Redemption' For This Hilarious Reason

John Carpenter may be a first-rate film director, but he couldn't get onboard with one of Red Dead Redemption's fundamental controls.

Red Dead Redemption isn’t the longest game to grace our consoles. On average, it can generally be completed in under 20 hours which has got nothing on Dying Light 2: Stay Human’s whopping 500 hours of gameplay. That being said, famed movie director John Carpenter still hasn’t finished Rockstar’s yeehaw gem and he’s given a hilarious reason why.

Check out some of our favourite wins and fails in Red Dead Redemption 2.

John Carpenter is the director behind iconic films like The Thing and Halloween and like most of us, he enjoys a bit of gaming in his spare time. The director recently sat down with The New Yorker and discussed what games he’d been playing lately, heaping praise onto Horizon Forbidden West. Carpenter complained that he wasn’t getting on well with Red Dead Redemption though as he couldn’t mount the horse. Oh dear.

“I couldn’t get on the damn horse. [...] I gave up. It was too hard,” the director said. “I’m pretty good after all the years I’ve played. But with that one I was terrible. The controls weren’t intuitive, at least for me. But I guess everybody else had a good time. It was a popular game.”

He added, “I’ve been playing this game for quite a while. It’s called Fallout 76. The Fallout games are fun, it’s like a post-apocalyptic world. This game had a rough launch, with problems and bugs, but I really like it. There’s this incredible game called Horizon Forbidden West. Astonishing game.” Carpenter may lack a little skill, but he certainly doesn’t lack taste.
