It's the battle of the behemoths in 2026, and while we doubt much will be able to touch the next Grand Theft Auto, Insomniac Games is trying its hardest with Marvel's Wolverine. As Logan prepares to slice and dive his competition with this PlayStation exclusive, it appears it's not just his claws that are razor sharp.
With Rockstar Games currently embroiled in a whole load of backlash over GTA VI and its long-awaited pre-orders, Marvel's Wolverine has seen it as an opportunity to draw blood from its rival.
Even though some critics claim GTA VI's budget is simply too big, the fact that it's tipped to make $1billion in pre-orders alone aims to shut that down pretty quickly. GTA VI is looking so colossal; other publishers are moving their games completely out of its flight path.

It seems everyone is steering clear of GTA VI, apart from Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is powering ahead with Marvel's Wolverine’s September 15 release. Although that gives it a full month's head start on GTA VI, it'll be interesting to see if sales are affected.

Over on X, Insomniac appeared to mock Rockstar Games when replying to one concerned customer.
When someone asked, "Looks like a great game!!!! Will this game be physical or a code in a box?" the developer replied with: "The physical version will include a disc in a box."
That little reply got a whopping 38,000 likes, with many laughing at this not-so-subtle shade against GTA VI.
For those who don't know, gamers were livid when they learned both the $79.99 Stardard Edition and $99.99 Ultimate Edition won't come with physical discs. The controversy has gotten so bad that some retailers in the USA have vowed not to stock GTA VI unless Rockstar reverses its decision.

Rockstar has been accused of backtracking, with the latest updates claiming that we will be getting physical copies, just not on launch day. Trying to douse these flames of controversy, Rockstar Support sent out an email that suggested physical copies will be available in the 'following months': “Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. Please note that the current pre-order is indeed just for a digital-only update; you will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months."
Despite some peculiar wording and everything being a bit vague, PPE.pl maintains that our discs will be arriving in December. That doesn't help those who have booked the day of work and will be playing on November 19, but if you want your shiny GTA VI disc, you might have to wait until Christmas.
Either way, many applauded Insomniac for confirming that at least Wolverine can sit in pride of place in our gaming collections AND boast a physical disc. One person cheered: "We need more people like ya!!!!! Ya been one of my favourite studios since PS1!!!!! Can't wait for this day 1 purchase for me!!!!!"
Another added: "@RockstarGames I'll be playing this instead and skipping your cheap code in the box garbage."
A third said: "Best thing to hear after yesterday. I’ll be picking my game up physically 👏."
While we can't imagine a world where GTA VI doesn't go like gangbusters and give GTA V a run for its money as the most profitable entertainment product of all time, the pre-order scandal isn't exactly getting things off to a positive start.
