Injustice 3 is coming, says NetherRealm

NetherRealm's CCO Ed Boon has confirmed that Injustice 3 could be the next game from the studio.

Injustice 3 has been rumoured for quite some time now. Last year, a Nvidia GeForce Now database leak appeared to reveal Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall but here we are 12 months later with nothing to back-up the apparent sequel. NetherRealm’s DC brawler series kicked off back in 2013 with Injustice: Gods Among Us with Injustice 2 then following in 2017.

If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you may have given Injustice 2 a whirl. The title was one of October’s three free essential-tier monthly titles. Could this in itself be a hint that an Injustice 3 is on the way? Well, NetherRealm have finally responded to the rumours and they claim that Injustice 3 is indeed coming.

Speaking of DC, check out our video review of Gotham Knights which recently landed.

NetherRealm rarely breaks their pattern. In recent years, the studio has alternated between Injustice and Mortal Kombat releases and whilst fans wondered if a new IP might be on the horizon, dev and CCO Ed Boon has confirmed that that’s not the case. During a recent AMA, Boon responded to a fan who asked about NetherRealm’s next project confirming that it would be either I3 or MK12,” which, to state the obvious, means Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12.

It’s hardly surprising news, but it’s good to know that Injustice 3 is still being discussed as a possibility following last year’s anticlimactic ‘leak’. Boon didn’t provide any further information though so I think we can safely say that a reveal is likely some time away. As reported by The Gamer, there were some other interesting answers in the AMA.

One fan asked, “Why are the 3D era characters so scarce in the most recent games?” to which Boon replied, “That is something we will soon fix.” He also added that the revealing costumes of certain female characters are “not likely” to return. It’s a scrap of an update, but it’s something.
