When Hogwarts Legacy was released earlier in the year, it soon became one of the contenders for Game of the Year 2023. Then the rest of 2023 happened.

One of the most prestigious video game award ceremonies is The Game Awards hosted by Hideo Kojima's bestie, Geoff Keighley. In recent years Keighley has done a fantastic job in raising the value of The Game Awards, to the point that it’s the place not only for awards but also highly anticipated announcements.

Recently, all the nominees were announced for The Game Awards 2023 with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 dominating nominations. As with most prestigious award ceremonies, controversy is never far away, such as Starfield being snubbed for the major gong, which never surprised a section of some fans.

It’s fair to say that some sections of the video game community were also not happy that Hogwarts Legacy wasn't up for Game of the Year. Some fans were so angry that they kicked off during a livestream on Twitch. As reported by Comicbook.com, players are struggling to cope with Hogwarts Legacy not being up for the accolade whic has been labelled as an “injustice”.

“Hogwarts Legacy did not get a single nomination for The Game Awards 2023,” said Twitter user PeterOvo. “This is a tragedy and an injustice.”

“It still blows my mind that Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t even mentioned at The Game Awards 2023,” exclaimed NikTek. “Not only is this game beautiful in almost every aspect, it has one of the best RPG elements as a Harry Potter Game.”

“Look, I understand the association issues with the IP. Truly,” tweeted Porshapwr. “But it's still a shame that Hogwarts Legacy, developed by several hundred devs who also understand the issues, is going to be completely ignored during awards season despite being one of the best games of the year.”

I get the complaints, Hogwarts Legacy is a fantastic action RPG, especially for fans of the Wizarding World. It has a fun story, it looks stunning and has incredible music. That being said, I can't help but think that with it being released so early in the year, it simply got lost in the shuffle in what has to be the best year for video game releases in recent memory, which is a shame.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
