Hogwarts Legacy 2 details appear online alongside expanded first game

Well, that was unexpected

Just before the week wraps up, it has been confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is officially in development.

Not only that but developer Avalanche Software is also reportedly working on an expanded version of Hogwarts Legacy, according to a report by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.

Check out the launch trailer for Hogwarts Legacy below!

Rumours have been swirling online for a while, especially as Avalanche Software has not been the most forthcoming when it comes to regular updates for 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy, but now both a sequel and an expansion for the first game have been confirmed.

With Warner Bros. already claiming that Hogwarts Legacy 2 was one of the company’s “biggest priorities”, this is the first time that we have heard about the first game receiving an expansion.

According to Schreier, Avalanche Software "is now working on new content for Hogwarts Legacy as well as a sequel".

Despite the good news for fans, it seems as though Warner Bros. has some concerns and fears the highly-anticipated sequel may not live up to Hogwarts Legacy, which became the best-selling game of 2023 with over 34 million copies sold.

"Questions linger about whether the success of the first game can even be replicated, let alone surpassed — or if the pent-up demand has already been satiated," Schreier claimed.

Despite the controversy surrounding its launch, Hogwarts Legacy was met with critical success but since its release, fans have regularly expressed frustration over its lack of content.

Other than a summer update back in 2024 and a Photo Mode feature, Avalanche Software has hardly added any new content, with many players having to turn to mods in order to get the most out of the game.

Not only that but expanding the first game begs the question as to why they need a sequel at all. As it will supposedly be set in the same Harry Potter-inspired universe, how much different could it be?

Well, it seems as though we will officially find out but without a release date, we will have to wait a bit longer to return to Hogwarts.
