We are already slightly closer to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI than we anticipated, and I bet you didn’t even realise.
No, I’m serious. Time has quite literally moved faster, and it flew right by you (and right over the heads of every other Grand Theft Auto VI fan, apparently).
So who caused this? Was it Rockstar Games? Have they manipulated the fabric of time and space, in a bid to deliver their new game to you quicker than anticipated?
As much as I can’t entirely rule out that that’s something that they’re actually capable of doing, no. The explanation is, somehow, actually a little bit weirder than that.

Over on Twitter, the infamous @GTAVI_Countdown account decided to mix things up a little bit and teach us some science.
As they revealed, via an article by Space.com's Jamie Carter, the Earth spun a bit quicker than usual on July 22. I’m not going to go into the technical reasons why, that’s Jamie’s job. He can leave the video game waffle to me, and I won’t step on his Space-related turf.
Long story short, that means that July 22, 2025 was “1.34 milliseconds” shorter than your average day on Earth. Apparently, that makes it the second shortest day in recorded history.
Naturally, the GTA VI community reacted to @GTAVI_Countdown’s news with a mixture of confusion and disdain.

“Maximum cope level but understandable”, commented user @RoiResell.
“Need to log off the app for a bit, bruv” replied user @JoserNunez91.
“GTA fans grasping at every straw man. You'd think they were Banjo-Kazooie fans or something”, commented user @BLOODY_FATALITY.
Well… I thought it was funny, mate. At least it makes a welcome change from the usual discourse about how expensive GTA VI is gonna be when it drops.

Also, wait, if the day was shorter, wouldn’t that mean that Rockstar Games had less time to work on the game? Wouldn’t that be more likely to delay the game?
Nevermind. Writing this article is making me want to become a flat earther.
