GTA 6's release date just became more important than ever

It looks like the release date of GTA VI could be even more important than ever if words by industry analysts are to be believed.

We know that the release of the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series is going to be a massive event with GTA VI likely smashing all sorts of records and setting plenty of firsts while it’s at it.

Check out the GTA VI trailer below!

Following years of rumours and leaks, Rockstar Games finally revealed the first trailer for GTA VI in December 2023. Yes, it’s was that long ago.

By now, fans were hoping that we’d have been treated to a second trailer for GTA VI but at the time of writing, we’re still left waiting. We don’t even have a confirmed release date.

However, as reported by Techspot, it looks like GTA VI is going to be the hero we never thought we needed, until now.

I’m sure many of us are aware of Donald Trump causing worldwide mayhem (more than usual) by imposing egregious tariffs on various imported goods within the United States of America.

In a nutshell, these tariffs will make many items a lot more expensive as companies pass on the tariffs to consumers. It’s Trump’s intention to make the USA more self-sufficient but whether that explodes in his face like paper straw remains to be seen.

So what does this mean for the likes of GTA VI and even the Nintendo Switch 2? It already looks like Nintendo’s next console might be more expensive than originally planned, at least in the USA.

Yet, despite the potential price increase, the Nintendo Switch 2 and GTA VI might help to boost reported dwindling sales in the video game industry.

Market outlets Newzoo and DFC Intelligence claim the Nintendo Switch 2 and GTA VI will boost the video game economy despite the impact of Trump’s import tariffs.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is still being felt and in 2024, overall spending in the video game industry fell by 2% to $80.2 billion. However, the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and GTA VI is expected to boost spending to $85.2 billion this year and $92.7 billion in 2027.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on 5 June 2025, while GTA VI is expected to be released late this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
