Although there are still over eight months to go until we finally get our hands on Grand Theft Auto VI, a recent big game release has got fans worrying over the big launch day.
There is no denying that Grand Theft Auto VI will be perhaps the biggest game launch of all time.
Not only has the Grand Theft Auto franchise been a household name since its first entry was released way back in 1997 but it has been well over a decade since its latest entry, Grand Theft Auto V, launched.
With fans eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto VI and with the Rockstar title expected to launch on just the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at the first, we could be looking at a pretty chaotic release day.

Worries have been piling up over the last hour alone following the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
The highly anticipated Metroidvania sequel has managed to crash Steam as well as the eShops for Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox and with GTA VI expected to be even more popular, we can only imagine what 26 May 2026 will look like.
“People think GTA 6 won’t crash the servers because it will have pre-orders,” one user shared over on Twitter.
“It’s delusional to think the most anticipated game ever won’t crash the servers/stores regardless of that.”

However, a fellow user was feeling more hopeful.
“Won’t be as bad imo because at least we will have physical copies available here. It’s the [online] store crashes [that are the problem] because there's no other way to buy it so you’re stuck.”
“So if Silksong breaks all the game stores, what’s GTA VI gonna do?” Another user summed up perfectly.
The good news is that due to it being a Kickstarter campaign, Hollow Knight: Silksong did not come alongside any pre-orders or pre-downloads and so every player descended on their platform of choice at the same time.

In comparison, we can expect Grand Theft Auto VI to have these two options readily available which will hopefully slow down any traffic on the day.
Maybe that is wishful thinking but it is something and Rockstar has another eight months to work out how to avoid breaking the internet entirely.
