The release of a new horror game in September 2026 could be causing trouble for GTA VI’s highly anticipated launch this November.
No question, the arrival of Rockstar Games’ GTA VI this year is one of the most highly anticipated launches in recent times. In fact, it might just be the biggest video game launch of all time.
However, an unexpected spanner could be thrown into the works, which could have a domino effect on the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. The game that could throw that proverbial spanner in the works is also a game that has no similarities to the Rockstar Games title, which makes the whole situation all the more intriguing.
GTA VI is seemingly on Michael Myers’ hit list
Yes, that’s right. The iconic horror movie legend Michael Myers could be causing trouble for GTA VI, more specifically, the Halloween video game adaptation that releases on September 8, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
As reported by Comic Book, Halloween: The Game, a one-versus-four asymmetrical horror from developers Illfonic, has been banned in Australia and New Zealand due to its ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) classification. It’s been banned for “the presence of a controlled substance”.

Anyone familiar with the Grand Theft Auto series knows that it has a lot of sexual themes, violence and drug use. It would be a fair assumption to make that GTA VI would be no exception.
As added context, while GTA V wasn't banned in Australia and New Zealand, some of its content was restricted, such as its gambling games and mechanics, especially concerning GTA Online. So, what does this mean for GTA VI?
Could GTA VI get banned in Australia and New Zealand?
Unlikely, but not impossible. There’s a good chance that certain aspects of GTA VI, such as gambling, may be restricted. What’s more, if drug names are too close to the real thing, those names might be edited in the game, as well as in the next iteration of GTA Online.
That being said, if GTA VI does get banned in Australia and New Zealand, or other regions in the world, importing games is not too difficult in most cases, and the vast majority of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles are region-free.
Where is GTA VI trailer 3?
At this time, we have no idea when the third trailer for GTA VI will drop. Hopefully, it will arrive in the coming months, with its full launch only a few months away. However, Netflix subscribers will get an ‘Extended Look’ on August 27, 2026 which, admittedly, may replace trailer three entirely.
If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, the GTA VI ‘Extended Look’ will also be shown on the Rockstar Games website and YouTube channel, later in the day.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC port hasn't been officially announced yet, but we’re sure that time will come eventually.
