GTA 6 Extended Look runtime confirmed by Netflix but millions will miss it

Our next look at Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for the end of the month, on the strangest platform possible, we might add.

Netflix of all things is where Rockstar Games plans to share an ‘extended look’ at GTA VI, and as you’d expect, the fans aren’t best pleased.

Before we get to that, though, some new details on the showcase have been shared as a fan got in touch with Netflix support to see just how much content Rockstar plans to show off.

The unnamed fan spoke with Netflix’s automated support bot and provided a screenshot of the conversation, which was shared to Reddit by ZamnBoii and then published by VICE.

It read: “Thanks for checking! Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the GTA VI extended look on August 27 at 3:00 PM ET. The showcase will last approximately 20 minutes. Until then, we recommend keeping an eye on Netflix’s official social media channels for any updates.”

Now we still need to take the above with a pinch of salt as the information wasn’t delivered by a person. Automated chatbots have been unreliable in the past and can still be unreliable now, but 20 minutes does sound right when compared to previous leaks.

It also makes sense given the platform. Only Netflix subscribers will be able to tune into the showcase, and if thousands of people pay for a subscription just to see a one-minute trailer, they’re going to be angry. That said, they’re already angry.

What to expect from the GTA 6 Extended Look

If the runtime is indeed 20 minutes, there’s a 100% chance that gameplay is shown off. We’ve seen plenty of in-game footage in the past two trailers, but the core Grand Theft Auto gameplay we’ve come to know and love has been kept behind the curtain.

Perhaps the 20-minute preview will take viewers through an entire mission from the game’s story. That feels like a pretty safe bet.

We’re also hoping to see some of the in-game activities we’ll be able to take part in around Leonida.

Why are GTA fans irritated by the Netflix showcase?

This one is pretty simple. Fans have been waiting months for more GTA VI news, and while it’s nice to know we’re finally getting another look at the game, Netflix is a divisive choice of venue.

Millions of people around the world don’t have a Netflix subscription, so locking a fresh look at one of the biggest games of our time behind a paywall is a bold move from Rockstar. It’s even bolder when you remember it’s still taking flak for there being no disc in GTA VI physical editions.

It’ll probably be leaked online anyway, but for those who want to watch it officially as and when it debuts, they’ll need a valid Netflix subscription.

The GTA VI Extended Look debuts on August 27, which just so happens to be right in the middle of Gamescom 2026. It’s going to be a stacked month.
