Grand Theft Auto VI fans hoping for a physical disc to play on may not get their wish granted, as a new update from Rockstar confirms there will be no disc edition available.
When Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders were revealed last week, one particular detail which became a huge source of controversy was the fact that Rockstar Games was not selling a true physical edition of the game.
While you can buy boxed copies of Grand Theft Auto VI, your purchase will simply result in you receiving a box with a code to redeem the game on your platform of choice.
This led to a mass outcry, with some retailers boycotting selling the game due to the lack of a true physical edition.

However, towards the end of the week, fans claimed that an email from Rockstar Support claims that disc copies of the game will be available after Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch date of November 19, 2026.
“You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months,” reads the email from Rockstar Support, which led many to believe that disc copies will become available post-November.

As The Hollywood Reporter reports, however, the “physical copy” referenced by Rockstar Support simply means the boxed copies which include a digital code.
THR also reached out to a Rockstar source, who said that “the language is being misinterpreted by a hopeful internet.”

THR added that “at this point in time, there are no plans for Grand Theft Auto VI discs to be printed — not at launch, and not months after,” based on information provided by its source.
Well, there you have it. This has likely been done to prevent leaks, where retailers which break street date can often end up sending games to customers as early as weeks before launch.
Those hoping to play Grand Theft Auto VI in November will have to contend with playing a digital copy of the game, whether they buy them directly from the Xbox or PlayStation Store, or grab a boxed copy from the various retailers selling the game.

Grand Theft Auto VI has two editions available to pre-order: the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition.
The Standard Edition simply includes a copy of the game, but the Ultimate Edition includes a variety of bonus DLC ranging from cosmetics like clothing, hair and accessories, to exclusive vehicles, weapons, and side missions.
Ordering either version prior to November 20 will grant players a month of GTA+, as well as access to the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes a variety of throwback ‘80s cosmetics and vehicles.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 20.
