With pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI out now, fans have nothing but time on their hands while they wait for Rockstar’s next big game to come out.
One game that might fill the void is Samson, a game we’ve covered before as a moderately decent Grand Theft Auto alternative that came out earlier this year.
When Samson: A Tyndalston Story came out in April, it received rather mixed reviews. Players praised the atmosphere of the world, as well as the story and music, but felt that the design was a little lacking.
While it might have been a hard sell back in April, Samson has now received a few free updates to flesh out the experience and give players a more satisfying time.

Since April, seven updates have been released for Samson, ranging from simple bug fixes and small improvements, to larger content drops focused on dramatically addressing the biggest issues that players have.
The first major content update dropped in May, which was combat-focused and added three difficulty modes. It also tweaked a few of the penalties you’d incur when getting knocked out, removing some frustration.
Changes were also made to the combat camera to make it more immersive while also remaining readable, and some new jobs and activities were also added to give you more ways to earn cash.

Meanwhile, a vehicle-focused content update dropped earlier this month, titled the “Welcome to the Pit” update.
This update added a new area, the Lowline Circuit Race Track, with its own street trials to beat. The regular selection of collectibles and activities were also added with this update, giving you a lot more to do in the city.
Players can now also customise vehicles, earn cash as a taxi driver, and access five new jobs which all offer you ways to pay off your debt.
Finally, some changes were made to how law enforcement and gangs detect you, as well as a few other tweaks to combat to improve it.

With the Welcome to the Pit update, Samson has almost checked off everything from its 2026 post-launch roadmap that it released earlier this year. However, console ports set for this autumn have yet to get a confirmed release date.
With the game’s similarities to Grand Theft Auto VI, it’s entirely possible that these ports may end up getting pushed back to 2027 to give it a bit more breathing room, while also allowing developer Liquid Swords to continue optimising the game with new updates and content.
Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders went live this week, where it was learned that the game would cost $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.
However, some details revealed with the pre-orders have upset potential customers, beginning with the fact that boxed copies won’t include a disc and instead feature a code to download a digital version of it.
Some fans are also upset that quite a lot of the content in the game has been held back for the more expensive Ultimate Edition, including exclusive cosmetic items, vehicles, and side missions.
