If you’re bothered by the wait for GTA 6, this open world alternative may be one to fill the wait until next November.
Earlier this month we reported on Samson, an upcoming open world game from former Avalanche Studios developer Christofer Sundberg, who was the creative lead on the original Just Cause games.
Samson is set to be an open world action-adventure very similar to Grand Theft Auto and the Just Cause games, and it’s coming in much earlier than GTA 6.
Developer Liquid Swords has revealed that Samson will be released on PC in early 2026, which should tide you over for around six months until GTA 6 comes out.

Obviously, with GTA 6 being only on consoles for the time being, and Samson being a PC exclusive at launch, there isn’t much crossover here. But GTA fans who may be missing out on playing GTA 6 at launch can at least enjoy this ahead of time.
But regardless, considering the long wait for Rockstar’s next huge open world release, games like Samson should at least scratch that itch and provide you with an open world driving fix.
Samson is a Big Spiritual Successor to Mad Max And Just Cause
As you can probably tell from the trailer, which I've linked above, Samson includes driving, fighting, and other open world chaos not too unlike the GTA games. However, given that the game also emphasises using cars as weapons, Samson could also be compared to Mad Max, also developed by Avalanche.
“If you like vehicle combat, physical driving, and fights that feel heavy and personal, you will feel at home,” reads the blog post Q&A when asked about its similarities to Mad Max.
“Samson is set in a grounded, modern city. The tone is more intimate, more urban, and more character-driven. Progression is steady, and the game is designed to be fun from the start, not only at the end.”
The entire blog post is worth a read, as it goes into quite a bit of detail regarding the gameplay and world, which looks like an excellent spiritual successor to Just Cause and Mad Max.
It’ll be coming to PC first in early 2026, with Liquid Swords bringing it to consoles later on after its release. As the developer states, “As a small team, launching on PC first lets us deliver the best possible version without spreading ourselves too thin.”
