Following the news that Xbox consoles are about to get a whole lot more expensive, players have worked out what this could mean for the cost of upcoming games, including the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.

Just yesterday, Microsoft announced that due to “market conditions” and developmental costs, it would be raising the cost of both hardware and software for Xbox.

Not only does that mean that Xbox Series consoles will see their prices raised significantly but games themselves will also be affected with a price increase expected to go into effect later this year.

As a result, brand-new games coming to Xbox will be around the $80 mark.

This means that titles such as the next Fable instalment (which was recently delayed to 2026), State of Decay 3, Hideo Kojima’s OD, and the Perfect Dark reboot to name but a few will cost a whole lot more.

Not only that but as you can probably guess, it is now expected that Grand Theft Auto VI could cost a minimum of $80, and fans took to r/GTA6 to share their thoughts on the potential price tag.

“Really sucks because no other 80 dollar game will be even close to GTA VI but publishers will insist on pricing it the same,” the top comment by user JimmyJabble reads.

User ProfessorVegetable98 agreed, adding, “I'm okay with GTA VI costing that much because I know they will try their best to extend the game’s life as much as possible. But having 2K or Ubisoft games costing $80 is where it's stupid and foolish.”

Of course, neither Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive have confirmed the cost of GTA VI but with some rumours that the next Grand Theft Auto instalment could cost up to $100, $80 would actually be a slight improvement.

However, with the title being the most anticipated game in the past decade, it is perhaps no surprise that fans are willing to match this price tag.

“GTA VI is the only game worth 80 bucks to be honest. Will probably be the first quadruple A game in the industry,” user QBekka shared.

With just a few months to go until GTA VI’s fall 2025 release window, we don’t have long before we find out how much money we will be handing over.
