Grand Theft Auto VI fans are once again arguing about the potential “$100” price tag for the game on release, and at this point it’s almost like you guys are actively willing Rockstar Games into charging more for it…
One user is desperately trying to get GTA VI fans to calm down for once, over in a thread on the r/GTA6 subreddit titled “You guys gotta stop saying you'll buy GTA VI at any price, otherwise that $100 bulls**t will really come to be!!”
And with an impassioned plea like that, surely the commenters have seen the error of their ways, right?
HAH! Very funny. No, they’re all waffling on about how much they’ll gladly back a dump truck full of cash onto Take-Two’s driveway just to play the game.

“$100 for a game with potential for 10+ years of entertainment,” commented user what_a_jamoke.
“1000s of hours? Go see a movie and get popcorn and a drink and you’re $50 in for two hours of enjoyment. GTFO with this mindset haha.”
“I really don't understand all the fuss about the price, you're buying a game you're gonna play for years,” replied user astrid_autumn.
“$100 seems like a pretty reasonable investment for hundreds of hours of having fun playing the game. are you seriously gonna let a $30 price increase stop you from playing the most anticipated game this decade?”

Alright, so there are a bunch of problems with this mindset.
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: it doesn’t matter if you think GTA VI (a game you haven’t played yet, by the way) is “worth” $100. The issue is that pricing the game higher will incentivise other publishers to charge more for their games, emboldened by the inevitable success of the game.
Now, the other issue is the whole “you’re gonna play for years” mindset.
If the game does launch with an online mode included in the price, that doesn’t mean that everyone else is going to want to actually play it.

For instance, I think playing GTA Online is akin to pulling teeth, but I loved playing through GTA V’s story. Let’s pretend we know that GTA VI has a 60-hour storyline, and it’s not worth replaying. Is that worth $100?
Also, say you love GTA Online and you’re keen to play the new version in GTA VI. You could argue that, considering the replayability factor, that could be worth the price tag.
Except, uh, are we forgetting that Shark Cards are a thing? How much of GTA VI’s Online is going to be gated behind microtransactions? I’m not gonna drop $100 on a game that I then have to invest even more money into afterwards. We already have to pay Sony and Microsoft for the privilege of playing GTA Online.
Why are you all so desperate to pay more for a product that we know so little about? At least get the full picture before you knock on Strauss Zelnick’s door and offer him a blank cheque.
