As if fans of Grand Theft Auto weren’t excited enough, a job listing from Rockstar Games has them in a tizzy over a companion app that will work with the blockbuster GTA VI.

GTA VI is due to be the biggest game of 2026, with millions of fans flocking to their consoles to boot up the latest masterpiece from Rockstar Games.

However, from the job listing, spotted by an eagle-eye Redditor, it appears we’ll be getting a companion app for smartphones that will interact with the full game.

The role will welcome a mobile engineer to oversee development for Android and iOS, and will help to build and maintain the mobile platform.

This isn’t the first time Rockstar Games has created a mobile app for their games, as both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 also had companion apps.

Of course, fans are starting to wonder what we’ll be able to do with the app, and are getting excited over the possibilities.

“Just imagine an app that turns your phone into your GTA VI phone,” said ItsDani1008.

Another Redditor replied, saying, “Would be cool if we can call for a taxi with our companion app, and the taxi arrives in game.”

This kind of interaction isn’t out of the realm of possibility, and we could even see in-game text messages arriving on our phones, creating a better sense of immersion.

Most players in the Reddit thread believe that using the in-game phones can be frustrating, so having the chance to use our own phones would prevent this.

With social media being a big focus of the game, as seen in the first trailer, this Redditor thinks we’ll get more interaction through our phones, saying, “Love to see it and even more excited to see the social media aspect of the game.”

Hopefully, we’ll get more details as we near the release date next year.
