GTA 6 parent company just shut down a long-awaited sequel

This is sad news

It’s never nice to hear news of a studio closing down but a recent studio that has fallen victim is one under the umbrella of GTA VI publisher, Take-Two Interactive.

As reported by Bloomberg, Take-Two Interactive who owns Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games is shutting down Intercept Games which is under the Private Division umbrella, Take-Two’s indie publishing label. Intercept Games is the studio responsible for the likes of the endlessly charming, Kerbal Space Program 2.

Check out the Kerbal Space Program 2 trailer below!

“Kerbal Space Program 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed space-flight simulation game Kerbal Space Program,” reads the description of the indie game. “Enter the next generation of space adventure with exciting new parts, stunning visuals, fully revamped UI and Map View, and rich new environments to explore.”

Much like the original Kerbal Space Program in 2015, many would have hoped that the sequel would eventually be ported to consoles. Sadly, following the reported closure of Intercept Games, Kerbal Space Program 2 which is still in its early access phase on PC, now looks unlikely to receive its console port.

Interplay Games is just the latest studio to be closed by Take-Two Interactive, following reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier of Roll7 having also closed its doors, a studio that brought us the critically acclaimed OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome. A closure notice by Take-Two Interactive reveals that an expected 70 employees will lose work at the Seattle-based Intercept Games studio.

In a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two Interactive spokesperson Alan Lewis said: “On 16th April, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to identify efficiencies across its business and to enhance the company's margin profile, while still investing for growth.”

The statement continued: “As part of these efforts, the company is rationalising its pipeline and eliminating several projects in development and streamlining its organisational structure, which will eliminate headcount and reduce future hiring needs.”

The GAMINGbible teams send our support to all those impacted by recent lay-offs and we hope that you find new employment soon.
