Fans are hoping that a popular feature from the underappreciated GTA: Chinatown Wars will return in some form with Grand Theft Auto VI.
Aside from its charismatic characters, enticing locations, gripping stories and fun side missions, one of the best aspects in pretty much every Grand Theft Auto game is the fantastic mini-games, and hopefully, Rockstar Games might bring one that has been overlooked for 17 years.
In GTA: Chinatown Wars, players could purchase scratch lottery tickets from convenience stores that could land them an in-game cash prize. While other games in the series had their own form of gambling, such as bookmakers and casinos, this was a unique feature to GTA: Chinatown Wars.
With that in mind, hopeful fans are crossing their fingers that lottery tickets in some form will return in the upcoming GTA VI.

“In trailer two, when Jason walks out of the convenience store with a six-pack, two things caught my eye,” announced Redditor Intelligent_Paper295.
“There’s a lottery ticket machine, with an NPC using it. This may hint that we could also buy one and maybe win the jackpot. Doesn’t seem too different from the slot machines in the Diamond Casino, and if it’s not implemented in the story mode, maybe it could be in GTA Online.”

“I honestly think that’s just set-dressing. People were picking apart the trailers and finding license plates from other states, then jumping to the conclusion that we’re somehow going to get multiple states to play in. The more likely reality is that it’s just world-building,” explained shallow-waterer, which seems to be the general vibe of the thread.
Of course, the lottery machine seen in the trailer could simply be a background prop in the game and nothing more. But given that betting in a variety of shapes and forms has existed in the series for years, not to mention that GTA VI will be the most technically advanced entry in the series, perhaps buying lottery tickets in the game is not a far-fetched concept.

GTA: Chinatown Wars was first released on the PSP and Nintendo DS in 2009. This entry in the series was a throwback to the early games that launched on PC and the original PlayStation with its top-down perspective. It was set in Liberty City, after the events of GTA IV.
To say that GTA: Chinatown Wars is an underappreciated game, considering that it earned a 93 Metacritic score and was largely well-received, does feel a little strange.
However, with it only being released on handheld platforms, there will be a large chunk of its fanbase that never got to play this awesome game. It would be great if it were to be re-released on PS Plus Premium one day.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
