Grand Theft Auto fans aren’t exactly the most, let’s say, grounded bunch.
In recent years, the fandom has faced a number of setbacks in the form of delays to GTA VI and a general lack of updates on the title.
Even still, you can’t say that everyone has reacted to those hurdles in a particularly normal way.
We should have known that would be the case the minute the fandom started looking for answers regarding the next trailer in waning gibbous moons.
Advert
More recently, outrage has arisen over Rockstar Games doing, well, nothing.
Yesterday, 26 May, was a significant day for GTA VI as it was the day that the title was originally supposed to launch before its second delay, which saw it shifted to 19 November.
Certain GTA VI fans don’t think that Rockstar Games should have let the day pass unacknowledged, criticising the studio’s “lack of care”.
“I don’t understand the lack of care by Rockstar towards the fanbase, especially on a day like this,” Twitter/X user GTABase began.
They continued, “How hard would it have been to tweet something like, ‘Today was supposed to be the GTA 6 release. The additional time is allowing us to create something great. We will have more to share soon - but in the meanwhile, here’s a screenshot to help with the wait. Thank you for your support.’ But no - nothing, even today.”
The situation has split opinion, with some agreeing that this is the least Rockstar Games could have done, and with others remaining pretty unbothered now that we’re on the final countdown.
“Tbf a cheeky screenshot with the new date could’ve gone platinum - but nothing. Reasonable take,” said Reddit user SomeChilledGuy.
“It would be nice! And this is reasonable. Anyone saying ‘they don’t have to’ is right. But that’s not the point lol communicating with fans even a little is HUGE for something like this,” agreed Apprehensive_Cow_331.

“Yup. At the bare minimum, some new screenshots would’ve been nice while waiting for marketing to start,” said yousif567, while wevegotheadonsticks countered, “The hype around this game, lack of new info, and y’all’s thirst is waaaaay better marketing than any screenshot would do.”
We know that GTA VI is locked in for 19 November with no further delays on the way, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently revealing that marketing will kick off this summer.
That specifically applies from June to August. While we don’t know exactly when trailer three will drop in that window or when pre-orders might open, it’s clear that we only have a few months longer to wait.
I do agree that a screenshot would have been nice and pretty low effort but I’m imagining that Rockstar Games has its marketing plans locked in at this point, so perhaps releasing a screenshot now would’ve scuppered those plans in some way.
GTA VI’s launch day will be here before we know it and this constant cycle of hype followed by anger will become all but a distant memory.
