GTA 6 60fps update likely isn't what fans wanted to hear

Quality over quantity

The brand-new GTA VI trailer is all that anybody is talking about since it was released earlier this week.

Not only did Rockstar give us the long-awaited trailer, but it also gave us a brand-new website telling us all we need to know about the state of Leonida and the characters who will be inhabiting it, releasing over 70 screenshots for hardcore fans to begin analysing.

Check out the second trailer for GTA VI below!

Luckily, with Grand Theft Auto VI now delayed until 26 May, 2026, they will have plenty of time to do just that; there's also a new report from Digital Foundry to dive into, revealing even more details about the record-breaking trailer.

The report takes a closer look at the graphics and technical feats of the trailer.

However, there was one piece of information that fans homed in on and it relates to GTA VI’s potential performance on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

According to Digital Foundry, GTA VI will not be able to include a 60fps performance mode as Rockstar cannot fully remove RTGI (Ray Traced Global Illumination) as it is now “inherent” to how the game works.

As a result, removing ray-traced reflections will drastically affect how the game looks.

This means that it is pretty likely that GTA VI will be locked at 30fps.

It was not long before fans came forward with their thoughts about this news, and many were not happy.

“If there's only 30fps mode, I will just wait for next gen. I waited this long, another year will be fine,” Twitter user Grolsch wrote.

Another said: “I really hate these devs forcing high fidelity onto gamers, specifically console gamers. Give gamers the choice between quality mode and performance mode, period.”

However, user Teej Tech is feeling more optimistic.

“I'll always praise developers who push games to their absolute visual limits, even if that does end up meaning the consoles are stuck with 30fps at release,” they shared.

“PC will always be able to offer a superior product at high performance for those that want it and the future consoles will have a much better version of the game to run at higher frame rates down the road. Anyone who wants games optimised into the ground until they can run at 60-plus fps on a potato is just holding back gaming from reaching its true potential.”

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May, 2026.
