'GTA 5' Players Find Wild New Secret, Eight Years After Launch

GTA V players have discovered a really cool nod to Liberty City hidden in the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.

We all know at this point that Rockstar is determined to never let GTA V go. Okay, sure, we know that GTA VI is at the very least a thing that exists (or is going to), but who knows how many more re-releases of the same 2013 game we’re going to get before that comes out. Look, you can say I’m exaggerating, but we’ve already had the new-gen ports earlier this year, as well as the highly contentious paid subscription service for GTA Online. They’re not killing it off anytime soon.

With that in mind, it’s a good job that it’s still a really good game, and is super packed with content. So packed, in fact, that all these years later, players have found a new secret, previously thought to be undiscovered, hidden in plain sight.

Before we get into it, be sure to take a look at even more cool things you might not know about GTA V in the video below.

As reported by Dexerto, two French YouTubers, MrFaucheur and GamingBGK, found that in the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game, if you head to the Opium Nights Hotel when it’s dark outside, and look into the glass on the far right, you can quite clearly see what appears to be Liberty City’s skyline in the reflection. Obviously, being in Los Santos, that’s definitely not something you should be able to see, but it could actually be a pretty clever tie-in to the name of the hotel.

“It's probably an easter egg linked to the name of the hotel. Opium being a drug that causes hallucinations,” wrote @Rockstar_Mag (translated by Google).

Whether this was actually intentional or not is another matter - as @Rockstar_Mag notes, for some reason, no matter how hard you look, you can’t see this in the latest PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports (they tested it in the Performance, Performance RT and fidelity modes).

Funnily enough, this discovery comes just a few weeks after one insider hinted that GTA Online might be getting a Liberty City map expansion, as part of a “BIG summer update”. Whether that actually holds true or not remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that fans would be happy to see it make its return. Perhaps not as happy as they’d be to see literally anything of the new game, but beggars can’t be choosers.
