God Of War Ragnarök just beat The Last Of Us Part 2's biggest record

God Of War Ragnarök just beat The Last Of Us Part 2's biggest record

God of War Ragnarök is officially PlayStation's fastest selling first-party game of all time.

It’s not news at all to say that God of War Ragnarök is very good, actually. I don’t think there was a doubt in anyone’s mind that it was going to be, mind you, but it’s certainly surpassed the expectations of many. Releasing to a barrage of perfect and near-perfect review scores, and promptly sweeping up a plethora of nominations at The Game Awards, you can’t deny that it's lived up to its hype.

With that in mind, although it’s impressive, it’s fairly unsurprising that Ragnarök has smashed yet another huge PlayStation record. As reported by Forbes, after selling a whopping 5.1 million copies in its first week alone, it’s officially become PlayStation’s fastest selling first-party game ever, kicking The Last of Us Part 2 off its pedestal after two years.

In case you missed it, take a look at this weird God of War Ragnarök ad which stars none other than Ben Stiller as Kratos.

The Last of Us Part 2 has been a bit of a funny one. When it first came out, a number of fans quickly decided that they hated the story direction, although some have since reconsidered. Regardless of your stance on it though, its sales were absolutely huge - according to Forbes, it sold 4 million in its first three days. Clearly though, Kratos’ latest adventure had the edge here.

It remains to be seen if Ragnarök can beat The Last of Us Part 2’s total sales, though - it was announced this year that the game has surpassed 10 million copies, so Kratos has a ways to go before he can smash that. Let’s face it though, that’s almost certainly just going to be a matter of time, right?

If you’ve been enjoying Ragnarök, I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know that DLC for the game hasn’t been ruled out entirely. However, according to the game’s director, you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up for it.
