'God Of War: Ragnarok' Dev Teases Odin's Look

Art director Raf Grasseti has suggested that fans have a lot to be excited about when it comes to meeting Odin in Ragnarök.

As I’m sure you’re all very aware at this point, earlier this month, we got a new trailer and (at long last) the release date for God of War: Ragnarök. To the surprise of many, it’s still actually coming out this year. Rejoice!

So, there’s a lot for us to be excited about (assuming you actually managed to preorder the game, that is) - as TheGamer writes, the title is set to introduce us to a number of fresh faces from Norse mythology including Angrboda and Thor (whose hammer, Mjölnir, features in the special Collector’s and Jötnar editions of the game as an awesome replica). Another new character is Odin, who, despite his importance, we’ve still not actually seen. According to art director Raf Grasseti, though, he might just have one of the most interesting designs yet.

Take a look at the latest trailer for God of War: Ragnarök below.

First spotted on the r/GodofWar subreddit, on Instagram, Grasseti was asked who he thought was the hardest character to design or create, and he got straight to the point - “Odin”. He added that he “worked for a long time with [lead character concept artist Dela Longfish] on that[,] can’t wait for people to see it”.

Intriguing! In a similar vein, while God of War (2018) had Kratos trotting around a number of different realms, he never set foot in Asgard, the home of the Gods, nor did we ever even get a glimpse of the area. Now though, thanks to the map included in the Jötnar edition of the game, we’ve got our first look of the realm…sort of. While it’s a brief glimpse at best, the map shows Asgard’s rainbow bridge, and what appears to be a massive fortress. So, Kratos is probably gonna be smashing his way into that at some point in Ragnarök, you’d imagine.

God of War: Ragnarök will release on PS4 and PS5 on 9 November.
