God Of War developer quietly teases new game

We can't wait to learn more

Santa Monica Studio has been one of Sony’s leading development teams since its inception in 1999, so it’s always going to be huge news when a new game is on the way.

Actually, despite being known for the legendary God of War series which made its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, Santa Monica Studios’ first-ever title was the somewhat unknown racing game Kinetica released in 2001.

Check out the God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla trailer below!

However, since the release of God of War in 2005, not including any external titles such as Twisted Metal: Black, Journey and The Unfinished Swan to name a few, Santa Monica Studios’ talents have been exclusively reserved for Kratos shenanigans.

So imagine the excitement when rumours began circulating that Santa Monica Studio is potentially working on a new IP. This means that this could be the studio’s first non-God of War game in roughly 20 years.

While neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio has announced the new IP in question, a LinkedIn profile of art director Glauco Longhi teased that a new game is already in early production. Now, we’ve been teased once more, but this time it's by current God of War director and writer Cory Barlog.

Barlog tweeted an image of himself outside Santa Monica Studio with the caption, “After ages in the wilds of the badlands, I return to the mothership to cause chaos.”

Of course, Barlog could be teasing anything or nothing, but many fans will be hoping that it could either be the rumoured new IP or the next full follow-up to God of War Ragnarök. Only time will tell.

It’s pretty much a given that there will be a new God of War game at some point, whether it's this generation, next generation or a little bit of both. That being said, it will also be exciting news when Santa Monica Studio is ready to share details on its unannounced project.

God of War Ragnarök is out now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. It also launches on PC next month on 19 September 2024.
