Gears of War is being made into a film, and while casting hasn’t been announced yet the perfect actor for its lead role has expressed interest.
I think it’s safe to say that Gears of War is officially back, or at least more alive than it’s been in years.
This year we saw the first game return with Gears of War: Reloaded, which brought the series to PlayStation for the very first time. On the horizon we’ve got Gears of War: E-Day, which will bring back a fan-favourite character, and we’ve got a film on the way too.
Directed by David Leitch, who also directed The Fall Guy, the Gears of War film is being brought to gamers by Netflix and will have a hefty budget. It’s said the film won’t entirely follow the story from the games but instead tell a new one, and so far the cast hasn’t been decided, at least not publicly.

Marvel Cinematic Universe and Guardians Of The Galaxy star Dave Bautista has weighed in though, and has expressed interest in the past about playing a member of the Coalition of Ordered Governments, also known as COGs.

Speaking with ComicBook, Bautista pleaded with fans to start a petition for him to star in the film, saying 'come on Netflix, come on already'.
The former WWE wrestler then alluded to knowing about the fan-casts for him to play Marcus Phoenix, with the actor even starring in promotional material for the games.

“It’s not like I’m not badgering [Netflix]” added the film star, once again asking fans to get that petition going.
In our humble opinion, we think Bautista would be a great shout in anything related to Gears of War, either as its hardcore protagonist Marcus Fenix or as an entirely new character.
That said there are so many other actors out there who’d crush a role in the upcoming film, like Jason Momoa for example.

Adapting The Story
The most interesting part of this Gears of War film to me though is how it’s going to structure its story.

There are several avenues it could go down but an easy one would be at the very beginning, when the war first started between humanity and the Locust.
Provided that it has the right budget and Netflix gives director David Leitch enough creative freedom over the project, we could have a winner on our hands if the cast is solid as well.
