With the potential for a Gears of War movie, its creator Cliff Bleszinski has revealed he would be more than happy for DC’s Zack Snyder to direct it if it should ever come to fruition.

In terms of video games getting adapted to screen, Gears of War has always been an example of one many fans would like to see. The third-person shooter developed by Epic Games would be the perfect action-filled video game series to get the silver screen attention and according to its creator, Bleszinski, Snyder at the helm would be the way to go.

Talk about a potential Gears of War movie began earlier this year at Gamescon 2023 when Snyder was interviewed by IGN about wanting to adapt the gaming series into a movie. “I mean, you know Gears is always coming up y’know, sort of in our circle. And I was a fan of the game, so- I mean off the top of my head,” Snyder said.

This was followed by Bleszinski being interviewed by ComicBook.com about Snyder potentially taking the directing helm. “To be frank, I think Zack Snyder is an amazing director when he is working with existing IP,” he said. “I think when he did, I think it was the Dawn of the Dead remake, some of his superhero movies, when he did 300. As an adaptation, 300 defined a whole genre of [filmmaking], the slow-mo and the fast pans. Army of the Dead, I turned off halfway through, I thought it was terrible. That’s right, I said it. But his fans are rabid as hell and the thing is, I think he’d be a great fit for it.”

Snyder has a great deal of experience under his belt, especially with the superhero genre having directed movies such as Justice League, Man of Steel and more recently, Rebel Moon. It will be interesting to see how he will tackle Gears of War if the project is handed over to him in the future.
