Gears Of War has some competition following this week’s biggest launch, as it’s blowing up the Steam charts.

After the last two titles, which weren’t bad but paled in comparison to that initial trilogy, the Gears Of War franchise seems to be making a comeback with Gears Of War: E Day.

Unfortunately, that game isn’t coming out anytime soon, so in the meantime why not try out Warhammer 40k: Space Marine II, which is basically a spiritual successor at this point.

Of course Space Marine 2 is a successor to the first game, but taking a look at the gameplay of both, the similarities with the Gears Of War games are as clear as day.

That hasn’t stopped it from becoming popular though, as the latest game has absolutely crushed it on Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.

It’s currently dominating the Steam charts, as players from similar games like Helldivers 2 and of course Gears Of War have all flocked to the title to kill some bugs, orcs and other monstrosities.

Here at GAMINGbible, we loved Space Marine II’s “action-packed” gameplay, and while we did feel there were some slow moments towards the end of the campaign it's “terrific world-building” and “crunchy combat” never failed to be fun.

Steam users agree too, as its over 18,000 reviews are “Mostly Positive” and praise the gameplay extensively.

“One of the best games I've played this year! Space Marine II reminds me a lot of the way I felt the first time I played Gears of Wars. Pure joy!” said one user.

“Just being introduced into the deep lore of 40k and wasn't a massive fan before this. Absolutely loving this game mechanically and also the lore bits got me interested,” added another.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine II is a solid third-person shooter, and one that can easily rival the Gears Of War series at its peak.
