Gears of War: E-Day gets stunning new pieces of Xbox hardware, and it’s something that fans of the series do not want to miss.
Alongside the likes of Halo, it’s fair to say that Xbox’s other major video game franchise is Gears of War, which made its debut on the 360 in 2006 and raised the bar for what’s expected of a cover shooter.
The influence of Gears of War can still be seen today with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and even Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, with the emphasis on cover-shooting. However, while the video game Space Marine 2 is inspired by Gears of War, the Xbox franchise is also heavily inspired by the tabletop RPG. It’s a full-circle moment.
Gears of War: E-Day is getting 2 stunning Xbox controllers
Ahead of its launch this October, Microsoft has revealed two stunning, officially licensed Gears of War: E-Day controllers, with one arguably being more stunning than the other.
One controller will be available at various retailers, while the other will be exclusive to Xbox Design Lab. The Gears of War: E-Day controllers will also have different pre-order dates.

The Xbox controller that is available to pre-order today is the ‘Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller’. It has a visually striking crimson/blood red and black palette.
It has a Crimson Omen logo in the centre, a COG tag on the back, and a 3D-moulded, laser-etched, burnt lava/rock texture on either side. As well as a rubberised, leather-like texture on the handles for extra grip.
The RRP of ‘Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition XBOX Wireless Controller’ is £84.99/$89.99. However, if you shop around, you might be able to pick it up for a little less. It will be released on September 30, 2026.
The second controller, which is exclusive to Xbox Design Lab, has an eye-catching, silver, red and black palette. It’s also designed by illustrator Luke Preece. It has a “two crossed Chainsaw Lancers surrounded by the skulls of your enemies” artwork, and with it being an Xbox Design Lab exclusive, it means that you’ll be able to customise the buttons and triggers however you choose.
At the time of writing, it’s not available to pre-order on the Xbox Design Lab, but we’re sure that will change in the coming days. That being said, depending on what customisation you go for, there’s a good chance that the price will exceed that of the other limited edition Gears of War: E-Day controller. It should also be stated that both controllers are compatible with PC and mobile devices via Bluetooth.
When is the Gears of War: E-Day release date?
Gears of War: E-Day will arrive on PC and Xbox Series X/S on October 6, 2026. So, if you pre-order any of these limited edition controllers ASAP, you should get them before the game's big launch. But both are genuinely limited edition, so you might not want to hang around.
Gears of War: E-Day will also launch on day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, then the other subscription tiers at later dates.
