The 'GTA Online' Summer Update Has Gone Live, Making Some Big Changes

The 'GTA Online' Summer Update Has Gone Live, Making Some Big Changes

It's a boat time.

For years now, the Galaxy Super Yachts in Grand Theft Auto Online have been considered an ultimately useless vanity item. While the substantial luxury boats are certainly gorgeous, they never really did much apart from float around on the water looking pretty. Given that they can set you back $6 million (in-game currency), you might have hoped for something more functional.

The good news is that GTA Online's big summer update has finally found a use for the glitzy party vessels. Starting today (August 11th), the Los Santos Summer Special update has made it so that your luxury yacht will serve as the hub for a number of new missions and activities.

"Galaxy Super Yacht owners will be able to engage in an all-new series of missions, either alone or with up to three shipmates," Rockstar explained. "Everything from deep-sea diving to high-speed hi-jinks on the high seas, there's action for sailors of all stripes."

That's not all the update is offering, though. There are some brand-new Business Battles and races to get stuck into, while the Diamond Casino & Resort is also adding a bunch of Adversary Modes for players to enjoy. There's also the usual raft of bug fixes and general quality of life improvements, which you can read about here.

"Make the most of the remaining dog days of the Southern San Andreas summer with a host of new activities hitting GTA Online next week," Rockstar wrote. "Featuring everything from tense new co-op missions launched from your Super Yacht to the track-based thrills of new Open Wheel Races, to a fleet of new vehicles to acquire and much more, Summer in Los Santos has something for everyone.

"Auto websites will be flooded with more than a dozen new vehicles to purchase, including rides for Benny to customize, off-roaders, tunable sports cars and a pair of new Open Wheel beauties. Push them to the limits in a series of new Open Wheel Races - or design your own street circuit with the new Open Wheel Race Creator."

This is GTA Online's first major update of the year, but Rockstar has assured fans that this is a mere taste of what's to come a little later down the line. The developer has been teasing a particularly meaty update with a new heist set in a brand-new location. There's even been talk of exclusive next-gen content for the popular online game when PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launch later this year, so there's lots to look forward to.
