If youâve rolled credits on The Blood of Dawnwalker, youâre likely itching to know whatâs next for lead Coen.
Another instalment is already in development at Rebel Wolves - and it looks as if it may drop the first gameâs time limit mechanic which ended up proving quite popular with players.
While The Blood of Dawnwalkerâs ending cinematic reveals Coen in the present day, facing off against an unknown threat, this isnât believed to be taken from the next game.
Itâs thought instead that weâll follow Coen through the ages with this being where Rebel Wolvesâ budding franchise eventually ends up.
Advert
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set in the 14th century, so there are quite a number of locations and cultures the series can explore before reaching the present day.
While there are multiple ways in which The Blood of Dawnwalker can play out, players largely all end up in the same place - and itâs here that Iâll warn that heavy spoilers lie ahead.
The gameâs ending raises more questions than it does provide answers, with these six unresolved plots practically guaranteed to dominate the planned sequel.
Players should learn more about the mysterious Augers and Arbiters
The Blood of Dawnwalker makes constant subtle reference to both the Augers and Arbiters; the Arbiter Armour, for example, is a legendary-graded item that can be hunted by the player.
Neither term will mean much to you for 90% of the game, but answers do begin to arise in the gameâs epilogue thanks to the arrival of a character by the name of Neberu.
The Augers are essentially implied to be some kind of vrakhir council, similar to, say, the Volturi in the Twilight franchise.
An Arbiter, by all accounts, is someone who works to enforce their rule. Itâs revealed that Lacra is an Arbiter sent by the Augers to defeat Brencis, with Neberu taking on a similar role.
If the player does not kill Brencis and chooses to strike a deal with him to save Coenâs family, the epilogue reveals that itâs Neberu who finishes the job and sees Brencis off.
Itâs implied that Brencis perhaps broke protocol by revealing the existence of the vrakhir to the mortal world, albeit only within the isolated Vale Sangora.
In a sequel, weâll likely learn more about the Augers, including perhaps who is on the council, when it was formed, and what its next threat to squash is following Brencis.
Lunkaâs fate remains in the balance
In all endings, Lunka is transformed by Brencis into a murohn as an insurance policy to inflict misery on Coen should he succeed in saving his family.
A murohn, as youâll know from having fought many off, is a vrakhir that hasnât properly transformed, leaving only bloodthirst in a mindless body.
In the epilogue, Neberu invites Coen to join the Arbiters, explaining that if he does, the Augers may be able to âsaveâ Lunka by transforming her into a fully-fledged vrakhir.
We donât know what Coen will need to do to earn the Augersâ help, nor how Lunkaâs situation can be rectified as our understanding up to this point is that murohns cannot be saved.
If Lunka is transformed into a vrakhir, that stirs up new problems. Sheâs only a child and vrakhiri, of course, donât age.
Coen isnât going to want to abandon Lunka but travelling the world with a juvenile vrakhir canât be easy. There are so many paths down which this plot thread could go.

Neberu will likely get a backstory

All major vrakhiri within The Blood of Dawnwalker get a slither of backstory, even if itâs possible for those to be overlooked by players.
Brencis, Isbrand, and Lacraâs backstories - and intertwining history - are revealed during Lacraâs questline.
Xanthe and Bakir reveal more about their origins during their quests, triggered after maxing their infamy levels, while Ambrusâ former lover is teased via letters in the gameâs open-world.
It stands every chance then that we should learn more about the dawnwalker Neberu who appears, sent by the Augers, in the gameâs epilogue.
Anachora is closely linked to the seriesâ big bad - and letâs not forget Coenâs visions

Anachora plays a pivotal role in The Blood of Dawnwalker. This hell-like realm is where vrakhiri souls become trapped after theyâre finally killed.
Itâs also from where both Xanthe and Brencis draw power from for their unnatural experiments, evidencing that Anachora can have a presence in the real world.
Itâs quite an abstract place, but one that is going to continue to influence the franchiseâs story.
In that modern day ending cinematic, Coen looks at a silhouetted foe floating in a magical doorway with twisted vines surrounding it, perfectly matching those found in Anachora.
It feels as if the overall sagaâs big bad and Anachora are going to be closely linked.
Letâs also not forget that we donât have an exact reason to explain why Coen is constantly plagued by nightmarish visions of Anachora and a frightening being within it.
Lacra will almost definitely appear in a planned sequel
Lacra is perhaps the gameâs canon romance as the only immortal option, although itâs likely that Coen will be offered the chance to romance other characters in future instalments too.
Throughout the game, Lacra makes references to her employer which we eventually learn to be the Augers as sheâs an Arbiter.
Now that Coen is also an Arbiter, Lacra will almost definitely cross paths with him. Perhaps sheâll be his mentor as he learns precisely what the role entails.

Ancaâs return is less likely, but it canât be written off

Thereâs no hope of Crake returning but Ancaâs chances are slightly better, and this links back to her questline.
Anca and Coen will pursue the Font of Life. Ultimately, Coen can use the font to gain a health regeneration buff or Anca can use it to free herself of her witchcraft runes and thus her link to Anachora.
This is Coen and Ancaâs understanding of the options anyway.
If the writers wanted to keep Anca around, the fact that sheâs potentially interacted with something called the âFont of Lifeâ feels like the easiest way to grant immortality. After all, Coen and Anca donât truly understand the weight of the item theyâre dealing with.
